Aviation of the Past
.
As most people know the first success at reaching the skys was December 17, 1903. The Wirght Brothers took off in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, and were in the air for a total of 12 seconds before making a very rough landing. But, the Wright brothers succsess were not the first attempts. The first attempts were made by Leonardo DiVinci wtih his Idea of a manned aircraft with flapping wings, resembling how a bird flies. Back to the Wright brothers. Several days before the flight an author published an article talking about how with current technology it would take 10 MILLION YEARS!! Following the success of the Wright Brothers, they thought to start improving the flyer until they landed on (pun intended) the Wright Flyer II which could fly for 5 minutes without stopping and made full circles. The flyer made a total 105 flights before being retired and replaced with the the Wright Flyer III. The Wright Flyer III had improved elavator and rudder along with a stronger motor, these modifications allowed the flyer to perform a lot better then the first 2. After the Wright Flyers they made the Wright model B which featured 2 seats for both the brothers to sit, a landing gear with rear wheels but still mostly resembled sled skis, and a more aerodynamic design.
